Fabric tear resistance – this indicates the durability of the fabric (woven threads – warp and weft) under various surface and load conditions. This coefficient is expressed in Newtons (N); the higher the Newtons, the more durable the fabric. At least 60 N is required for high load conditions.
Pilling test – fabrics with a coefficient of 3 may have a risk of fibre entanglement (pilling). It is recommended to choose a fabric with a coefficient of 4.
Colour fastness to light – a fabric with a coefficient of 4-5 is sufficient for home use, but it is not recommended to leave furniture in direct sunlight, as the colour may fade and white spots may appear on the fabric. If the furniture is intended for use on a veranda or by a window with open sunlight, it is necessary to choose a fabric with a coefficient of 6.
Martindale abrasion test (abrasion resistance) – simulates the natural wear of a seat cover, where a textile material sample is rubbed against a standard abrasive surface with a certain force. For home use, a fabric with 30,000 cycles after the test is sufficient, for restaurants and hotels – 50,000.
