Sustainable use of resources

Ilgtspējīga resursu izmantošana

Environmental protection remains a current topic. Concern for maintaining environmental quality and ensuring the sustainable use of natural resources is essential. There are various environmental protection measures that each of us can take. One of these is conserving natural resources, reusing them, and reducing waste.

On average, each resident generates approximately 140 kilograms of packaging waste per year, and this volume continues to grow annually. In response to this problem, Parliament has adopted new requirements for packaging regulations, aiming to reduce waste and promote reuse.

Given the increase in waste volume and its impact on the environment, we have implemented circular economy principles in our operations. This means the secondary use of materials and resources to reduce waste and its adverse effects on the environment. The circular economy is a resource consumption model that involves sharing, reusing, and recycling existing materials for as long as possible.

Undoubtedly, one of the recent factors contributing to excessive packaging use is online commerce. Various essential factors must be considered when packaging a product, from the functional protection of the packaged product during transportation to convenient use and providing information about the product. Without appropriate packaging, fragile products can be damaged, leading to losses. Therefore, preventing product damage and losses is crucial.

Recognizing both the problem of increasing waste volume and the need to provide high-quality and product-appropriate transport packaging, we ensure in our operations that no more materials are used than necessary, optimizing the reuse of packaging, thereby reducing the use of natural resources, as well as reducing the amount of waste disposed of in landfills. The boxes and packaging materials in which goods arrive at the warehouse for display in our stores are then used to pack items purchased from the online store kameja.lv and sent to the consumer.

Caring for environmental protection is an essential step towards maintaining environmental quality and the sustainable use of natural resources. We have made progress in this direction, and we will continue to find solutions for resource reuse to reduce waste.

We urge everyone to reduce the amount of waste consumed, reuse it as much as possible, sort it, and be responsible towards environmental resources. Together, we can take care of a sustainable future.
